Recurring Transactions by Merchants

(monthly)

Recurring transactions are transactions that are set up and authorized in advance for funds to be debited from your customer's checking account for a specific purpose.

Your specific purpose may be for: memberships, subscriptions, phone, media, utilities, loan payments, security monitoring, fitness centers and many other types of bills that are due monthly.

If you have not setup your customers on recurring ACH or debit or credit card monthly debits, call our Service Center, we can help you get set up. To set up your customers for recurring debit transactions you must have proper authorization from the account holder. If you have any questions on how to set up the proper authorization for each customer, please call our Compliance Department for answers to your questions. ACH transactions are the low-cost choice for recurring transactions. You can save as much as 2 to 3% on most transactions. ACH transactions are also very stable because the checking accounts do not expire. Funds are usually delivered at the same next day speed as other forms of payments. Credit and debit cards can be expensive to use for recurring transactions and there are issues that often cause declines. Examples of declines are: Card over limit, late payment on card, expiration date passed, and new card number issued for a lost or stolen card. Any of these can cause a declined payment on a given monthly recurring charge. These types of transactions can cost 2 to 5% or more depending on your type of business. Expect more declines than on ACH transactions.

Trillions of dollars in recurring transactions are recorded annually. ACH debits have been replacing paper check payments since about 2001, when nearly 2,000,000 checks were returned NSF every day in the United States. Today, economic conditions have influenced declines of all recurring debit payments to extremely high levels.
